The New York Times recently ran how “People on Drugs Like Ozempic Say Their ‘Food Noise’ Has Disappeared.
What I would’ve given when I obsessed about food to read an article like this to discover this wasn’t a “me thing”; the article mentions TikTok videos explaining ‘Food Noise’ being viewed 1.8 billion times ????.
Now having worked with clients to resolve their food noise for 16 years, I know this phenomenon deeply, its layers, and how to resolve it without Ozempic-like drugs.
For starters, whatever experts pathologize regarding food and bodies, I ask “why does this make sense?”. Because once I realized my food noise made sense, versus being the problem, I could address the root-issues for food freedom.
This paradigm-shift is essential because most scientific inquiry, especially around food and bodies, is rooted in patriarchal religious beliefs that bodies and women are inferior, not wise.
For example, the Times’ article cites one research approach that associates “food noise with hedonic hunger, an intense preoccupation with eating food for the purpose of pleasure.” Convince me otherwise the sin of gluttony isn’t influencing the imagination of this study.

Continually asking, “Why does this make sense?” will upend everything you think you know about yourself, food and body included.
So why does food noise make sense?
And why does the Ozempic genre drug class eliminating Food Noise make sense?
There are two main drivers of food noise. One is physical, which I’ll discuss today. And the other is emotional, which I’ll discuss next time.
Physically-driven food noise
Nutrition is essential to keep you alive. Food noise’s evolutionary purpose made sense because it told your ancestors, “Start gathering and hunting!”. Inadequate nutrition threatens your survival so much that your body generates anxiety via blood-sugar dysregulation.
While our present food supply is the polar opposite of the scarcity even as recently that your Grandparents’ most likely experienced, your body’s evolutionary “software” hasn’t updated to today’s food surplus.
Another physically-caused food noise driver is that calories and nutrition aren’t the same thing. Nutritious foods contain nutrition that reduce food noise. But plenty of calories don’t contain adequate nutrition at best and at worst, extract nutrition from your body (like refined sugar). This results in being overfed, undernourished, and food noise.
You will know your body has adequate nutrition when you feel satisfied. Satiation is your body crossing off one of its survival to-dos: proper nutrition complete. Cravings and insatiable hunger are signs you aren’t eating the right nutrition for your body.
The Times’ article cites a theory that “Ozempic creates satiation in users and that could blunt food noise.” If religion didn’t influence science, this would be considered common sense, not science. The body is wise (not gluttonous), like that.
While Ozempic produces satiation through mimicking the action of the hormone GLP-1, balanced blood-sugar and a high fiber diet also produces GLP-1-esque satiation and innumerable health benefits.
Your body is a natural pharmacy when fed well.
To me the bigger challenge of resolving food noise is trusting in satisfaction. Because religious or not, you’ve been conditioned to distrust your body and satisfaction.
