Food as Safety
Explore Your Stress Eating Root Causes and Solutions
Free Gatherings Around Insatiable Season 13 and
to Take the First step towards a Truce with food
with Ali Shapiro, MSOD, CHHC
The past few years have tested each of us. We’ve been immersed in Grief. Loss. Relationship fissures. Children’s developmental concerns. Money stress.
And these individual challenges are nesting dolls of the escalating war on women’s bodies, caretaking, and the Earth.
Stress and stress eating are at an all-time high.
In the American Psychological Association’s pandemic anniversary surveys, COVID-19-related stress was associated with unhealthy weight gains and increased drinking.
And close to 58% of respondents reported experiencing persistent, undesired weight changes and unhealthy behaviors. In my old vernacular, the diet never started tomorrow.
If safety is a primal need and stress is inevitable, how can you feel safe without turning to food?
Join me and other health rebels who hate small talk for this free, casual, come as you are workshop series where we’ll apply the Insatiable Season 13, Food as Safety episodes to your own stress eating and life.
If you’ve ever wanted to know where to start to have your own Truce with Food, I got you. We will do that together, here.

While I’ve never run these Food as Safety gatherings before, the perspectives and tools I’ll share have been well received by past participants in various workshops:
“Ali presented a very different perspective on dieting and emotional eating. Two statements resonated for me. ‘Self-sabotage is self-protection’ – I realised what I was doing was a logical extension of feeling unsafe, uncertain, and anxious. That I didn’t need to attack myself (with guilt, shame, failure) for my self-sabotaging behaviour. Rather, I needed to focus on ‘What triggers me to feel unsettled?’ instead.” – Angela
“I’m excited by this extremely different. The coaching exercise and the applicability of T-A-I-L has been an eye-opener!!! I have become aware of tired and anxious moments that I had not previously realized were even happening.” – Nancy
“The perspective Ali presented is very, very different from pretty much all dieting approaches I tried and failed at. Everything I tried was all about willpower and being strict with yourself, which is a disaster for an emotional eater. Ali’s webinars validated that breaking the emotion-eat cycle isn’t a willpower issue…” – Anonymous
