The Truce Coaching Certification: A New Paradigm of Change
For change agents who want to up-level their confidence, impact, and business.
ENROLLMENT REOPENS IN 2024
What we know about how to change is shifting. I want you to be a part of this change.
In your gut, you can sense that the traditional behavioral health model and coaching field aren't exactly designed for the holistic needs of our client's biggest challenges - like chronic battles with food, body image, and burn-out.
The problem is that, for the most part, a root-cause resolution and mind-body approach aren't offered.
As a result, traditional coaching tools like motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral (CBT) coaching, and positive psychology only inspire surface-level conversations and transformations.
And clients often find they "lose the tools" when they're under stress. This start-stop pattern is the rule, not the exception.
These tools make our coaching work shallow, and risks us seeing our clients as a "set of issues" instead of a whole person.
And for our clients, the outcomes are frustrating.
Without understanding the root causes of their well-being battles, they stay stuck in that "I know what I should do but don't" cycle of resistance. Their health and results suffer. And they feel even more shame about failing yet another attempt to fix themselves.
It doesn't have to be this way. For your clients. For you.
It doesn't have to be this way. For your clients. For you.
If you as a coach or change agent are equipped to bravely, brilliantly, and holistically support your clients to have a "Truce" with their resistance, you'll facilitate the freedom and results they've never found anywhere else.
Because the way to life-changing transformation
isn’t with more rules.
It’s with giving your clients more agency.
You see, most other coaching programs focus on keeping clients beholden to outside authorities and their protocols - the coach included. In other words, there's a pre-existing idea of what the client "just needs to do."
No one questions who came up with this idea, what gives it authority, and whether it truly makes sense for the multitudes of varying human experiences.
The Truce Coaching Certification (TCC) puts you in the role of coaching your client to discover for themselves what's actually best for them, including understanding the holistic reasons they battle food, their body or whatever stubborn change you want to facilitate.
The result?
You help generate your client's increasing self-trust and their ability to want to want to make the best, healthiest choices for themselves, at this stage of their lives.
Especially as they often discover themselves rebelling from what other coaches and professionals have told them is "healthy" and "good"!
Your client's well-being becomes about trusting in satisfaction - not willpower and discipline - which leads to sustainability and the cumulative results of consistency.
“Getting Truce Certified is the best investment I've made in my business. My clients are getting further in one session than five months previously. And overall, clients are making faster progress with more breakthroughs. If all of that wasn't enough, I made 90% of my investment back before we even started.”

“The most comprehensive program I've taken.”
I've taken a number of coach certification programs and this is by far the most comprehensive. Ali is totally dedicated to each coach's understanding, development and growth.
It's an incredible program with truly personal attention, and well worth the investment if you value mastery and want to coach with confidence.
Jaimee R.
If you want to truly transform a client’s life, the last thing you need is more tools. It’s time to peel back the layers of resistance to get to the real root of their issues.
Of the 500+ clients I've worked with, 97% all shared one thing in common: their lifelong struggle with food and body issues were because the root of those issues had never been acknowledged.
Chances are, clients are coming to you with the same painful patterns.
You see, it's not about the food. It's about safety - which has never been addressed.
As a result, they have protective resistance that isn't given the necessary attention.
Without a trained eye, both clients and coaches can fall into the trap of believing more tools are the answer, instead of knowing the "falling off the wagon" is where the work lies and is the most effective way to get to the root causes.
Many of the mainstream coaching tools for changing habits (like EFT or self-help "hacks"), while somewhat helpful, often become another source of frustration for our clients.
Habits rely on predictable circumstances. But complex behavior change like eating, exercise, or other complex change involve unpredictable circumstances and making nuanced, contextual choices amongst big emotions.
Habits and hacks become one more item on a list that becomes even heavier than any physical weight they carry - something else they "know they should be doing but they aren't doing it."
TCC asks: WHY does this client have to tap with EFT so much or try so hard to eat well when it's so important to them?
The simple answer is safety. Specifically psychological safety, which is the ability to trust they can be themselves, belong, and make the choices they want to make, even when it feels risky.
When you unlock the key to how psychological safety
and belonging influences your clients' relationship to food and their bodies, everything shifts.
It opens up an exciting new frontier of what you and your clients believe is possible for them.
TCC provides an evidence-based, client proven process to radically shift your approach to working with client's struggling with their food, body, or any complex change challenge.
The Truce framework is exactly what I needed to have the confidence to go deeper with myself and my clients as I'm now able to understand why my clients did the things they did.
The tools help to peel back the layers so that I was able to see the behaviors in a different way. There is a lot of talk about shame but this was a process of breaking through the shame to make new choices.
Christen Conly
In the Truce Coaching Certification,
you’ll discover how to eliminate your clients’ shame and find real food freedom.
The transformative power of the Truce Coaching lies in four foundations of the program.
This radically different approach from conventional health coaching is what makes this work life-changing for your clients…and for you:
1. You’ll deeply understand how our client’s food issues center around
Truce Coaching identifies the root-cause of your client's food and body image issues: the stories that make them feel unsafe.
These stories have a psychology and body component, with the body component being mostly overlooked in traditional coaching and therapeutic approaches.
If willpower, discipline and "knowing your why" are the gas, a client's stories are the "Why Not" - which is a more powerful brake.
When these stories are triggered, clients turn to food to literally and metaphorically feel like it will all be "OK". Eating becomes a tried-and-true, well-known comfort.
Food is a primary safety NEED. As babies, being fed ensures our survival. It it is also coupled with belonging to our caregivers. Without caregivers through early adolescence, most of us wouldn't survive.
So it's no surprise that when our stories trigger our psychological safety or sense of "OKness", food becomes the most accessible form of safety, which is a primal need.
The Truce Coaching Certification will show you:
- How to confidently coach your clients to identify their stories and connect these stories to why they fall off the wagon.
- Why their stories are the real cause of their overwhelming feelings that - until now - have required so many complicated, disempowering tools simply to manage your client's wellbeing.
- The key to empowering clients to show up with dramatically increased motivation and buy in.
TCC alumni say their client sessions are so much more energizing, fun, and full of pride as you watch your clients shed years of shame and frustration in exchange for relief because they finally understand - and can work on - the real issue.
2. You’ll finally see why your client’s “bad” habits are always self-protective.
It's time to ditch those traditional coaching methods that focus on breaking bad habits, or force your client into positive thinking, or even challenge their thoughts.
Instead, you'll go deeper with them to see how these behaviors and "Inner Critic" thoughts are designed to protect them.
Together you'll uncover how their patterns have served as a safeguard against their stories being activated and risk their "OKness".
The Truce framework provides you a holistic, systems-based understanding of how self-sabotage like binging or "Chuck it, Fuck it" eating is protective, makes total sense, and has little to do with "being a victim."
This understanding repairs a clients self-trust (often damaged from other coaches!), generates self-compassion, and melts shame as they come to realize they aren't broken, have been doing the best they knew how, and they don't have to white knuckle their way out of their eating or unhealthy habits.
Your Truce-based approach will:
- Increase your client's sense of safety in the coaching relationship with you. They'll finally feel seen for their innate wholeness - instead of viewed as a lab experiment with a bunch of "bad habits" they need to break.
- Facilitate more openness, trust, and curiosity for ongoing inertia-like a boulder rolling down a hill that continues to move forward on its own. They'll sense you aren't judging them or expecting them to Tony Robbins their way out of healing their food and body battles.
- Help them drop the armor that keeps them stuck - an armor that's served them very well. Through their work with you, they'll finally find the courage to drop this form of protective resistance because you'll show them how to heal the damage caused by their stories. You'll model for them innovative ways to compassionately relate to their stories for more resilient safety.
3. As a Truce Coach, you’ll compassionately serve your clients to drop the protective armor that keeps them stuck.
Our client's protective resistance has served them very well. And, as the old coaching adage says, "What got you here, won't get you where you need to go."
In Truce, you'll uncover the key components of midwifing your clients through this resistance, which include:
- How to avoid (even unintentionally) gaslighting them that their stories are untrue or - that tired cliche - "you are not your story."
- Supporting them to heal the rupture their stories created in the relationship within themselves.
- Coaching them to relate to their stories in a different way that creates more psychological safety and self-trust.
- How to support them to stop abandoning or rejecting themselves when they are in their stories.
- Empowering them to choose differently in their stories, which is where radical healing occurs and protective resistance becomes obsolete.
As a Truce Certified coach, you'll clearly see all the puzzle pieces of your client's behaviors in front of you and then you'll confidently connect the dots of those pieces.
And you'll know how to organize what's happening when clients come in with a whole lot of "stuff", rather than wondering yourself how to move the client forward.
Equipped with this clarity around the whole web of what's happening, you'll create life-changing ah-ha moments and deep insights for your client to move forward and feel 1000x lighter.
Or as clients enthusiastically say, "I'm actually changing! Who am I?"
4. You’ll
all-or-nothing eating (and living). your clients from the rigidity of
Nine times out of ten, client's stories generate binary thinking about what is the "good" and "bad" choice.
This rigidity creates two unproductive choices:
A) either the fantasy of perfection (or 100% psychological safety) or
B) the catastrophizing of imperfection (100% unsafe).
These extremes are where "diet starts tomorrow" comes from.
Truce Coaches are able to support clients out of this rigidity by using research-backed methodologies:
- Enable clients to tune into the present instead of retreating to well-worn stories.
- Model flexible thinking, which leads to empowered decisions on the best choice for what your client needs, in their real life experiences, at that moment.
- Coach them to understand why it's flexible choosing - not the rigidity of SMART goals - that leads to sustainable change.
To be candid, you'll unlearn some of the maleness (hyper-masculine/yang for my yoga teachers) of traditional coaching, which often still rests on client's battling themselves rather than working with the sacred invitation that lies within their battle.
And you'll unlearn some of the whiteness (as a belief system, which rests on control) of traditional behavior change that rests on predictable, controlled circumstances and instead, teach clients to meet the dynamic, present moment.
The beauty of this story-driven, safety approach is its elegance. This "less is more" process simplifies your client's eating, reduces how much goes into their wellness, and exponentially increases their food freedom and results.
As a coach, you'll be working with your clients in a far more expansive way, helping them discover what works for their unique body and life (which is often not what other people they've hired have told them) and create a long-term, self-sustaining way of life.
“My coaching confidence has soared”
I'm much more confident in my ability to coach people. The change process is so layered and multi-factorial, but the Truce framework reveals what's necessary for sustainable change.
Jaimee R.
Your value as a coach increases 10-fold when you invest in your own development
We coaches are human. It's our strength. Investing in your own development is a triple win for you, your clients, and your business.
The twists and turns of your client's coaching journey and running a business will often lead to a whole menu of issues.
We're talking self-doubt and uncertainty about everything from the expectations you have of yourself, to your client's issues becoming your issues, to holding yourself back from making bold moves in your business.
In TCC, you'll work through the framework with YOU as your own first test client. You'll apply it to a personal problem or edge you're battling - whether that's food, body image, or your business (expect all of them to improve regardless, as this is a holistic, relational process).
This facilitates more process mastery and supports you being further along in your own self-awareness than your clients are in theirs. As many Truce clients have said, the Truce process is like getting a Masters degree in self-awareness.
You see, the most masterful coaches don't have everything figured out. They're masters because they invest in their own development to become at least a few steps ahead on the issues they support their clients with.
Your increased self-awareness as a coach creates more value for your clients. The Truce framework will enable you to better identify your own patterns that get in your way of the life and business you want.
When you're unaware of your own patterns, they can make your coaching less effective:
- You over-fix to calm your anxiety (and eventually burn yourself out)...
- Or you want a client to like you (so you can't sit in their discomfort with them)…
- Or you don't ask tough questions or say what needs to be said (so powerful breakthroughs never happen).
And if we don't know how to lead ourselves through our own stuff as coaches, our issues often become our clients' issues as we project our stuff on them and can't see our client's patterns clearly - and without bias.
Here’s how our own issues interfere with client progress:
For example, if we always feel behind in our business, we might project onto the client that they aren't making fast enough progress. We interfere with the value of subtlety and slowness that informs sustainable change.
Or if we haven't further developed our own resilience to the messiness of the transformation process, we might project our own doubt onto the client and throw a bunch of tools at the problem to see what sticks.
This can also look like getting overly attached to our clients' results. Ever felt like your confidence and anxiety is on a rollercoaster that's driven by each client session or outcome? And when these results can be tied to your financial or business livelihood, navigating your way to a grounded place is particularly nuanced and challenging.
Truce Coaches have been there, too, and share-with transparency-their path to emotional resilience.
Because there's a million ways this can show up and a few key individual patterns we all have, TCC will support you to work through this.
The bottom line is when you aren't further along than your clients, it affects your coaching results.
> Blindness to your own fears and patterns blocks you from seeing what's actually happening with your client.
> And it prevents you from being in a truly curious, open space rather than thinking you know what's happening… because it's what's happening with you!
True coaching mastery requires the ability to sit with uncertainty.
TCC gives you increased self-awareness of how your own patterns are sometimes triggered by the unknown in your coaching.
You won't rush this sacred space nor will you fill it with your own projections (or transference, as it's called in the therapy world).
And with this increased self-awareness, you'll trust more in your own coaching style. Many coaching trainings teach one way or a "right" or "wrong" way to coach, adding pressure and leading you astray from your own style as you compare yourself to other coaches.
TCC works best for those who want to genuinely and authentically develop their own teaching and coaching style and make the Truce framework their own.
Investing in your own development as a coach is essential to walking the talk of building the resilience, creativity, and bravery you will be asking of your clients. TCC is built for this.
“The most significant results were that this program changed how I relate to my work, my clients AND my clients results. I'm having so much more fun coaching as the framework really leads to real client transformation and growth.
Working on my own story made the certification powerful and really helped to change the way I think about coaching and my business.”

Increase ease in your business,
clearly communicate your value,
and scale your profitability
TCC provides an evidence-based, client proven framework
that delivers a unique, high-value solution.
A Replicable Process
Using the repeatable process of the structure of complex change, you can meet your clients exactly where they are for a personal experience, meaning you can easily apply this framework to facilitate groups…leading to more impact, profitability, and accessibility.
Burnout Prevention
Support 1:1 clients with value-driven pricing, which means no more of the high caseloads that lead to burn out. Instead, you can deliver exceptional client care that doesn't sacrifice quality.
Lower Ongoing Expenses
Profitability wise, you can leave behind those underwhelming, shiny object investments that are often old tools repackaged as "new."
And, you'll save time without having to recreate the wheel each time and the results you provide will generate trusted referral sources.
You'll emerge from TCC with a powerful process that integrates the tools you already have and eliminates the need for more tools (and perhaps some you have) and generates the type of client value where you can charge enough for a sustainable living for yourself and your family.
Learning a bunch of disparate tools is not the same thing as coaching mastery, especially if the tools aren't interconnected into an elegant framework that can deliver your clients specific, life-changing results.
These straightforward, tangible results enable you to have a distinctive niche and value proposition, which is essential for business profitability.
- Price and sell your offers in a more profitable, confident, and easy way.
- Spark a fire of raving clients, which leads to word of mouth referrals - still the best and easiest marketing for coaches.
When you have a flagship program that works for private, group, or institutional clients, you can do more of the work you love because you won't be constantly remaking coaching materials, going down research rabbit holes for clients, or have a bunch of different offerings that all require their individual operational and marketing resources.
TCC supports creating profitable and sustainable systems of care for your clients, your business, and you.
“Now my marketing attracts more of my ideal clients”
Having a proven and effective structure and framework has been a game changer in my business and for my clients. My confidence with coaching has increased immensely. My marketing is much clearer so I can attract more of my ideal clients and I am calmer overall in my business.

Why you should learn how to radically transform your clients’ lives from a human Swiss-Army-Knife of academic precision and client experience
Hi, I'm Ali Shapiro,
(MSOD, CHHC for the credential curious)
I know you're a rebel in a world of cookie-cutter coaches. You wouldn't have read this far if you weren't.
But that doesn't mean you're not also a razor sharp coach who desires a different way to help clients transform their issues with eating and body image.
With me, you get a Swiss-Army-Knife of academic precision and clarity, 16 years of client-proven practicality, and personal experience that brings empathy, depth, and humor.
If nuance is your middle name, we might be soulmates. Keep reading…
TCC is the framework I wish I had when I realized early in my health coaching career that food issues had little to do with food. And that body image was fluid and something deeper, unrelated to a body size, as both me and clients would have "feeling fat" episodes that didn't correlate with any body size change.
When I transitioned out of the Corporate world to my own health coaching business 16 years ago, I was just happy enough to be "making it".
For the first time in my life, I was doing work I loved and paying all my bills with that money (Full transparency: I haven't had any sort of financial support in building my business and have always contributed 50% to my family's income).
A few years into this version of "making it", I realized you can only run on passion for so long. I was carrying a 20 + client load and didn't clearly understand the uncharted territory my client's were willing to go with me around understanding the root causes of food and body image.
My lack of mastery and anxiety around being the best coach I wanted to be for my clients led to a lot of wasted time and energy. I soothed my self-doubt with "shiny object syndrome" programs and methods, which were often just old, unproven approaches wrapped in new packaging.
Every time I invested in one of those approaches, I did so with the hope that it would solve an 18-year-old puzzle for me.
I'd radically and successfully changed my own relationship with food after nearly two decades. I didn't just stop battling food or my body. I developed the confidence to question diet and medical authorities.
This led to unintentionally rebelling against almost everything I was taught was "good" or would work. In learning how to listen to my body, not the experts, I eventually arrived at my own nutrition and body truths. I ended my emotional and binge eating AND reversed stubborn acne, IBS, and depression.
And I wanted those same exceptional results for my clients.
The coach training I had received was a great first step. Yet it wasn't the complete solution to the deeper and more life-changing results that happened when I didn't just quit diet culture. I was also on the path of something else I couldn't yet describe.
I went to graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania to "reverse-engineer" what happened to me and what I was seeing- but not deeply understanding- with my clients. I learned most, if not all of the evidence-based coaching theories. And, over time, discovered their limitations. Because to effectively break the rules, you need to know them first.
It was in graduate school - and then refined over the last 16 years of health coaching - that I created the Truce framework. This was the elegant, multi-tasking solution I was looking for all those years ago that would deliver exceptional client results not by telling any client what to do, but empower them instead to discover their own radical food and body truths.
- The elegance of the Truce framework means I work about 30 hours a week (I am waayyyy done with our culture of overwork) and my business is simple yet mighty.
- I'm financially comfortable. Money can be taboo to discuss because of privilege, values, and money beliefs. But if I were to hire someone, I'd want to know they have walked the path before me to success; I do make and profit over that (arbitrary) six figure coaching business status symbol.
- I'm secure in my pricing because of the value this framework provides. And, in turn, I can run groups to make my pricing more accessible and provide the opportunity for scholarships and meeting people where they are financially.
None of this happened overnight. Building a coaching business on mastery takes time well spent.
But it doesn't have to take you as long as it took me. Because how busy and hard you work doesn't translate into how much impact you have with clients or business success.
In fact, the more you can walk your talk of a healthy, well-balanced life, the more powerful your coaching becomes.
TCC can support you in upleveling your coaching mastery and downstream business results.

What’s it like to work with
Ali Shapiro as your mentor?
“Ali has a unique ability to hold complexity and cut through it at the same time, which helps her guide students toward uncovering the dynamics that both prevent change and enable it.”
Jaimee R.
“Working with Ali is a life-changing gift”
Working with Ali has been a life changing gift. She was so generous with her time and walked me through the process with such patience. The most meaningful thing to me was that she never made me feel shame or judged when I felt like I was not grasping things as quickly as I wanted too.
Christen Conly
“Modeled transformative listening skills for me”
Ali is a great listener and has a wealth of knowledge that allows her to read the underlying meaning in what people are saying. It is something I admire and appreciate about her and it has been a transformational skill for me as I went through the Truce certification.
Kinsie Tate
“Mentoring with Ali is like having a good friend in your corner who has your back.”
Eva Schaforth
“Helps you get to the root of a client's issues”
It's really helpful to share how you approach a situation with a client and to get feedback from Ali. She always provides thoughts of different angles to consider and questions to ask your client to get closer to the root of the issue.
She is also able to point out if (and how) you're bringing your own story/stuff to your coaching sessions to bring awareness to it, as well as tools to help separate it. Part of becoming a great coach is doing your own work and Ali is a pro at facilitating that growth.
Laura Folkes
“Open, honest, nurturing and wise”
I really loved having Ali's thoughts, opinions and structure on everything. I found her to be extremely professional, pretty organized and very inspiring. Having her there to answer any personal or client dilemmas and having her be so open, honest and nurturing was very helpful throughout the entire process. I come just to hear Ali's voice and wisdom, so I think working with Ali is pretty priceless.

TCC is for rebel coaches who love being on the leading edge of evidence-based, integrative approaches.
IS
You're an experienced nutritionist, coach or healing professional or leader experienced with managing people or facilitation. Or you're a therapist who wants to break into the coaching world.
You want to support your clients in understanding and healing the root causes of their battle with food and their body, dispel all-or-nothing thinking, and empower them to take meaningful risks in their lives - without "waiting on their weight."
You're willing to go deeper with your own development so you can better serve your clients and enjoy more food and body freedom for yourself. You want to develop your own style as a coach.
You love going deep and being "in it" with clients. You know this space-where you navigate and live in the nuances and gray-is where the most profound coaching and results happen.
You have a rebel spirit that senses there's a lot missing in mainstream coaching approaches, which are very much influenced by maleness (or hyper-masculine for my archetype friends). Disrupting the status quo feeds your soul.
You want a community who "gets it." This means other coaches who are building their businesses in ethical ways. They're in the trenches of navigating how to do innovative work that's changing the narrative around health and wellness, the marketing and promotion of that, avoiding burn out, and making a comfortable living.
IS NOT
You don't have any professional or personal experience with food and/or stubborn change challenges.
You don't like going deep with clients. This process addresses root causes, so if you don't like being in the deep end of the ocean with someone, this type of work isn't aligned.
You're currently unwilling or unable to do your own deep emotional work (there are times this isn't helpful and that's OK). In this program, you'll go through the Truce framework yourself with a challenge you are having, as we can only take our clients as far as we've gone ourselves.
You want to be told exactly how to coach.
You have very black and white views around coaching, personal responsibility, focusing only on the positive, or seeing everything as growth.
You believe in the coaching approach of "tough love" and "don't play the victim." This process is tender and brings up very real pain clients have experienced.
This is not for you if you don't believe that people can be victims and victimized and not rest in victimhood. Meeting clients with compassion, unconditional positive regard, and with understanding that their "bad habits" make perfect sense within the right framework is critical to success with this framework.
Curious if you have sufficient experience for TCC? Book a call with me and we will find out together.
"Ali's philosophy is that there is no right or wrong way to coach. Unlike other coaching courses I've done, she really allowed and encouraged me to be authentic in my approach rather than trying to fit myself into a box."
Eva Schaforth
Here’s the Breakdown of the TCC Program
This program is trauma-informed and certified through the International Coaching Federation (ICF) for 40 Continuing Coaching Education (CCE) and Board of Certification of Nutrition Specialists (BCNS) for 20 CEs.
It integrates evidence-based theory and practical application for a path to coaching mastery.
The Truce Model
The first half of the Truce framework enables your clients to discover the stories that make them feel unsafe, which is the root cause of their food and body battles.
This "subject-object" move - or your client's being able to clearly see the story that drives them to feel unsafe - is half the developmental work.
You'll be able to coach and facilitate them to see their story, their story triggers, and how they protect themselves.
The Truce Root-Cause Resolution Solution
The second half of the Truce framework is supporting clients to choose differently in their story. This "Option C" is the freeing, flexible choice between the all-or-nothing, rigid mindset their stories lock them into.
When you coach them on how to identify this Option C and experiment with it, you support your clients in re-establishing trust with their bodies and selves. Their food battle resolves naturally, no white knuckling required, as they increase their sense of psychological safety and no longer need food for that purpose.
Here’s What You’ll Learn
to Get Your Clients Proven Results
TCC takes place over 11 modules. Three modules are foundational,
and eight modules teach the Truce with Food framework.
The 3 Foundational Modules
MODULE A
The Truce Framework Background
- Why this framework is created the way it is and what it accomplishes for your clients.
- The difference between adaptive and technical change and why this makes you more a midwife than a coach - one who needs to trust a client's own journey and answers versus an accountability partner who tells them what they need to do or what they think they need to do.
- The eight module framework overview as an introduction to developmental psychology.
MODULE B
Developmental Psychology Theory
- What is developmental psychology and why is it so life-changing for adults who have struggled with food and body image.
- The 3 different adult developmental plateaus and why they matter when working with food and body image.
- The developmental journey we will be midwifing client's through to develop psychological safety and the ability to self-author the stories that influence their food and body choices.
MODULE C
Trauma-Informed Coaching
- Understand how trauma functions and how to respond effectively to raise your coaching presence.
- How to recognize a client is in a traumatized place versus just stuck.
- Techniques to return the client to a coachable space.
The 8 Truce Framework Modules
MODULE 1
Diagnosing a Client's Why Not
- Uncover how to set an adaptive change goal and why SMART goals sabotage a client's success with food and body issues.
- Learn the three components of coaching a client to discover their story and how to connect these stories to your client's food battle and sense of safety.
- Understand what is a "subject-object" move and why this developmental ability matters for our clients results.
MODULE 2
What's Your Story Role?
- Unearth the "good" and "bad" self-judgements clients have of themselves with their existing story - and the fierce resistance this creates to "doing what they know they should."
- Learn four main authoritative influences that have informed our clients' ideas of how to be "good" and "bad" for belonging (i.e. psychological safety).
- Discover the way our clients make meaning about themselves in their story and the developmental importance of being able to see and name these judgements to begin to soften their resistance.
MODULE 3
Story Self-Protection:
The Three Self-Preservation Stress Reactions
- Learn the three patterns clients use to protect themselves in their stories and the socialized mind.
- Understand how these stress reactions form being rigid and all-or-nothing and acquire the skills to introduce more flexible, moderate ways of being.
- Grasp how client's seeing this stress reaction further supports the necessary subject-object development to cultivate even more psychological safety in their stories.
MODULE 4
Who's Your Inner Protector?
- Identify why the Inner Critic is actually an Inner Protector and the role this deeper understanding plays in dramatically softening their safety wall of resistance.
- Discover the role of the Inner Protector and how it perceives your client is out of control.
- Master the mind and body intersection of the Inner Protector and use integrative approaches that holistically support psychological and somatic protective reactions.
MODULE 5
Who is Your Noble Protector?
- Understand how a client's Noble Inner Protector reduces anxiety in the short-term yet leads to "muscling through" and ultimately harming their relationship to food and their bodies.
- Uncover the role of the Noble Inner Protector and how clients perceive they're in control when they listen to this side of themselves
- "Master the mind and body intersection of the Noble Inner Protector and use integrative approaches that holistically support psychological and somatic protective reactions."
MODULE 6
How to Pause, Not React
- Learn about Social Engagement Nervous System and the role this plays with our Inner and Noble Protector.
- Understand common nervous system reactions present in clients' stories that can cause hyper reactivity or powerlessness. Unlock the role that binging plays in co-regulating a freeze reaction.
- Master how to support clients through these reactions and empower them to identify their needs and wants. Learn the practical implications of having the mental and emotional flexibility to allow the current, present need to emerge.
- Somatic and Developmental Psychology Expert Stacey Ramsower will lead a special session to teach nervous system tools that fit into the Truce model.
MODULE 7
What's my Option C?
- Uncover exactly what "Option C" is and why it's essential both for client's self-authoring development and to change their story for more psychological safety.
- Understand how Option C facilitates the flexability required for clients to sustain the healthy food and health habits necessary for reaching their goals. Learn how it contrasts with "Do This, Don't Do That," which often keeps clients in those rigid, sabotaging all-or-nothing modes they want to break out of.
- Learn why focusing on Option C-type choices shifts your clients into the required self and body awareness process that's necessary to generate the freedom, agency, and results they crave.
MODULE 8
How to Own My Story
- Apply growth-mindset effectively, which goes beyond just praising effort and into the realm of clients testing their story so they get the results they want.
- Master how to support your clients in developing and running their own tests to increase their self-authoring development.
- Understand and identify the types of data that self-authoring and socialized minds pay attention to and why this matters so much in testing.

Certifier Success Stories
“My marketing is much clearer so I can attract more of my ideal clients and I am calmer overall in my business.”
I was craving a structure to take my clients through so they could get even better results. I also craved trusted-mentorship around what was happening in client sessions and wanted a sounding board if my client and/or I were feeling stuck.
I feel like I got a Masters in Coaching with the The Truce Coaching Certification. I am much more confident in my coaching. And having a proven and effective structure and framework has been a game changer in my business and for my clients. My confidence with coaching has increased immensely. My clients are also getting much bigger results and faster from our work together.
Previously I felt like I wasn't helping my clients get results fast enough but now I'm able to trust the process and that everyone arrives at a different place in their own time. That has allowed me to approach each client with a much calmer mindset so I am feeling less stressed in my business overall.
Having gone through the process myself had a big impact on my relationship with food and how I approach and relate to my business. My marketing is much clearer so I can attract more of my ideal clients and I am calmer overall in my business.
If you're craving mentorship with your coaching, a proven and effective structure to help clients overcome their food struggles, and a supportive group of other professionals, you can't go wrong with the Truce certification!
Laura Folkes
“Ali's mastery, compassion, and humor make it easy to bring up any struggles or blocks.”
I'm much more confident in my ability to coach people. The change process is so layered and multi-factorial, but the Truce framework reveals what's necessary for sustainable change. I have loved Ali's mentoring because her mastery, compassion and humor make it easy to bring up any struggles or blocks, and I know I will always leave with a better understanding. And, the Truce framework has helped me make sense of the self-protective patterns that limited my choices in the past.
Jaimee R.
“Truce with Food changed my life and I wanted to be able to do that for other people. The Truce framework is a really powerful, truly transformative process for those who are willing to do the work! And mentoring with Ali is like having a good friend in your corner who has your back.”
Eva Schafroth
“Ali has a wealth of knowledge that helped me identify areas to experiment in my life for personal growth and development as well as taking my business to the next level. I know myself better, I have clarity on what I want, and have the courage to go for it. My metrics for success have shifted from, I achieved my goal, to I learned a lot and know how to adjust for the next opportunity.
I wanted to branch out from therapy and move into coaching and Ali's framework gave me a valuable framework to integrate my own skills into and use with clients. I already have one client I am taking through the Truce process and I am working with organization leaders in my field to offer it to groups.
If you have an established client base and want to learn more about yourself and branch out to help people go deeper, this is a great process. At the same time, if you are new to coaching and want a framework to make your own as you figure out your client base, this is a great tool to have and a tremendously valuable process. I would definitely do it all again!”
Kinsie Tate
“I knew I needed tools to go deeper with clients. I was already a certified life and health coach but I felt like a fraud. This framework is exactly what I needed to have the confidence and tools to go deeper with myself, my clients and reach deeper levels of healing.
There are so many changes that have resulted from this work, with the most significant being that I am able to view things as an experiment. Whereas before, everything was make or break. This has taken off so much pressure and anxiety. The mentoring that Ali provides gave me the tools I needed to move to the next level with clients. This program is the best investment you can make in yourself and your business!”
Christen Conly
“I wanted to be able to use the TWF framework in my business because I found it so valuable for me and I wanted to learn a different way of relating to clients experiencing some stubborn habits/change. The whole experience has been life changing.
In the beginning, I was experiencing a lot of self-doubt as it relates to my career, my story, and I was second guessing my coaching. The most significant benefit was that I don't have to have all the answers. And applying the Truce framework to business building has been extremely helpful. This program is very inspiring, eye opening, easy to learn from and very exciting! I loved it all.”
